“I know, they should be able to come up with something else” Alison said with a little laugh. She noticed that he, once again, looked at her. Why was that? She thought about saying something about it, but to be fair, he couldn’t help that she happened to be within his field of view. Not that he was so bad to have within her field of view either. She looked down at the water in the bucket and stopped.
“I don’t think this water is clean” she said and frowned. She looked up at Troye.
“We might need some sort of purifier, but that’s a potion” she stated and looked confused down at the water. She bent down and sniffed it.
“Do you smell that?” she asked and looked at Troye.

How was it even possible that she thought about everything? Sure, she was the Ravenclaw - but he wasn’t stupid! (Obviously he was a little stupid.)
“Come on”, he muttered and shook his head. Yeah, he had wanted the professors to be more creative, but this was just annoying. Could they please just get their water? He had actually grown thirsty.
“It’s a potion?” he said, questionable, as he bent down to sniff the mysterious water. Huh, it actually did smell something. He couldn’t, however, recognize the smell. “What the hell is that smell?”

Alison shook her head.
“I don’t think the water is a potion, but no matter what we need a potion to purify it. If that is the case, we either have to find the ingredients and make it ourselves, or they’ll provide us with the potion somehow” she said and sighed. Potions wasn’t one of her better subjects. She had had an O in it (as in every subject), but she still hadn't been very good at it.
“I don’t like this guessing game very much” she said and sniffed the water, trying to place if she had smelled something like it before.

Oh. Yeah, right. Of course she meant it that way. Stupid, stupid Troye. Could he possibly use one or two of his brain cells?
“I can’t do potions for shit”, he complained. Snape hadn’t even allowed him to continue with the subject after his fifth year - he had received too low grades. He took another sniff of the water and wrinkled his forehead.
“Well, it doesn’t smell bad”, he stated, standing up tall again. “And I doubt that the professors would simply give us the potion. They’re bastards.”

Alison sighed.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. I’m just curious what will happen if we were to drink the water. They can’t kill us, can they?” she asked jokingly and looked at Troye with a smile. She tried to think, because she knew that somewhere in her brain she had the information they needed, she just couldn’t figure it out.
“Purity potions were in Year three, right?” she asked and groaned. She hadn't taken any more Potions classes since year 5, she didn't need them. She could remember other, less important stuff, like tell the signs of a Hippogriff’s different moods, in alphabetic order. Why on Earth couldn’t she remember the one useful thing she needed right now?
“Does birch leaves as an ingredient sound familiar to you?” she asked and looked at Troye.

Potions class had been a living hell for Troye - which was the reason to why he skipped that class. A lot. Although the class-skipping begun more in his fourth year, so he should’ve remembered the purity potions. It was such a long time ago, and even though he attended the lessons he didn’t pay much attention. But birch leaves did sound familiar.
“Yeah”, he said and nodded, closing his eyes to think. He went through his mind and was, after a while, met by the picture of mistletoe berries. “...and mistletoe berries?” He opened his eyes and looked at Alison, not being sure if he was right, but he sure hoped so.

Alison nodded.
“Yes! Definitely!” she exclaimed and tried to remember the last ingredients. She was pretty sure they needed four ingredients. She turned to Troye.
“Maybe we can gather the first two, and think about the rest on the way” she said and looked down at the bucket.
“I don’t know what’s more convenient, leave the bucket here and gather and make the potion and then come back for the water, or keep carrying it with us” she said and looked back and forth from the bucket to Troye.

“I think we should leave it here”, he answered, feeling proud because he actually had been right. Not that he admitted his own pride - he would probably look like some second year student who finally could use anything they had been taught in class.
“Do you even know where we can find mistletoe berries and birch leaves?” he asked shortly after with a small groan. Potions class could have been worse - if Snape had let them search for the ingredients themselves.

Alison nodded.
“I think so. Birch leaves are the easiest one. Birches are the only trees with black and white trunk, so they’ll be easy to spot. I believe mistletoe berries grow close to mud, so I bet we’ll find some around the stream” she said and looked around. She put the bucket on the ground and started looking at the trees and the bushes, hoping to find what they needed.
“So, it seems like both of us didn’t enjoy Potions very much” she said with a smile.

She constantly reminded him that yes, she was the Ravenclaw out of the two. Not that he’d rather be a Ravenclaw than a Slytherin - but still, life would be easier if you just got their brains. He put down the bucket as well and started to look for mud and some bushes around the stream. There were a lot of bushes - but he couldn’t see any berries from looking that fast.
“Completely hated it”, he said and looked up at Alison with a smile. “I only attended like fifty percent of the potions lessons in my fourth year, so I guess that says a lot about my feelings for the subject.”
