Noel understood that the "fuck off" was uncalled for. He turned his head and looked at her. Still, she didn't have to make fun of Gobstones. He didn't make fun of Quidditch (not that it was that much to make fun of. It was just so dumb, but no one would admit it.) so why did she think it was okay to make fun of his (only) interest?

"Well", he said and put his bag on his shoulder. "Stop. You're obviously making it even worse." He walked out of the classroom and said goodbye to the professor. He turned around to Audrey.
"You have any papers to write or something?"

Audrey shrugged. Apparently, she did make it worse. Her social skills was faulty, she knew that.
“Yeah, I have a paper to write” she said. She swallowed the urge of adding “dad” to the sentence, she didn’t want him to explode. She just couldn’t help it, he was really fun to mess with, since he got so mad. She really needed to choose her timings well.
“Do you have something you need to do? Because if not, we’re having a problem with the whole being together thing” she said and looked at him. She could write her paper during the night, that wasn’t the problem, but she was sure she rather wrote a paper than do whatever he did during his leisure. And she didn’t want him to be in charge, of course.

She tightened her ponytail and studied his face. When he wasn’t pissed at her, he actually looked okay. For a Slytherin, that was. She put her schoolbag on her shoulder.
“I’m not really sure how they’ve been thinking with the whole logistical part of this project” she said with a little smile.

He shook his head. He had been a really Good Boy™ that week.
"I don't, actually", he answered. "I guess that you can write yours in the library while I..." He stopped himself. He wasn't sure if she would make fun of him if he said that he would check out some books. She probably would, and he was tired of getting made fun of.
"I can help you with your paper", he said instead of the whole book thing. Not that he enjoyed helping anyone with things. He wasn't good at helping, either. He just got annoyed when they didn't understand him.

"Me neither", he said and smiled back at her. A tiny, weak smile, but still a smile. "I guess that we have one thing in common." He raised her eyebrows at her as if he was surprised (which he was) and then looked away again.

Audrey shook her head.
“I don’t need help” she said and started walking towards the library.
“But thanks for the offer” she added, she had to be nice for a while.
“You’ll find something to do there” she said and smiled. She laughed a short laugh at his comment on that they finally had something in common.
“Finally, right? It may be small, but it’s something” she said and smiled.

There weren’t many people in the library, but a few. Audrey sat down at the desk and pulled up her books and parchment. She had already written half of it, so it wasn’t much left. She opened her books and sighed. She searched the pages and wrote down some things. She glanced at Noels direction, and wondered what he was up to.

Fortunately, Audrey didn't want his help. They walked together to the library and she even laughed at his comment. Was this what having a friend felt like? No, it couldn't be.

He hoped that he would see Klaus in the library. They hadn't talked to each other (or, Noel hadn't nodded at whatever Klaus had to say) for too many hours. Noel had to learn to appreciate Klaus. Klaus was seriously the biggest part of his entire life.
Audrey started writing her paper and he started to look around the library for books and Klaus. He found some interesting books and after a while he saw the son of a bitch named Klaus Harrison sitting down at a table with his Ravenclaw buddy.
"MERLIN!" he exclaimed a bit to loudly for being in the library. "Klaus, I thought that I would die without you. I kinda am dying, actually. Save me."
Klaus laughed a bit at him.
"Well, you seem fine. Where's your buddy?"

Audrey sat and wrote, and was in a big writing mode when she saw in the corner of her eye that someone sat down in front of her. She looked up and was relieved to see Erics face.
“Eric!” she whispered, and he smiled.
“How’s it going?” he asked, and Audrey raised her eyebrow.
“With what? The essay or the project?” she asked and Eric sniggered.
“The project” he asked, and Audrey sighed.
“No very well. The first thing we did was having a fight over who’s the more superior. And he doesn’t get my jokes. He’s also really fun to push to the edge, I think he’s going to explode next time” she said and Eric shook her head.
“Can’t you try and be a bit… nicer?” he asked and Audrey sniggered.
“You’re asking for the impossible. And for the record, he’s really asking for it, which is why I make fun of him” she said and Eric shook his head. His partner John came up to him, and they walked away, waving. She waved back and returned to the books. She finished her essay and closed the books, and putting them in a pile on the table. She looked over at Noel, but he seemed to be in the middle of a conversation.

Noel turned around to point at Audrey when he saw that she was looking at him. He felt so dumb, standing there, pointing his finger at her. Merlin, this would so be used against him. He turned back to Klaus and forced a smile.
"Well. Gotta go", he said. "We'll meet again, at dawn." The dramatic voice made Klaus' buddy look weirded out. Klaus waved him goodbye and Noel went back to Audrey.
"Are you already done?" he asked, trying not to sound surprised. Not because he thought that she was dumb (he actually didn't. Sarcasm took a bit of intelligence, actually) but because he wouldn't have been even close to done at that point.

As she watched Noel and his friend, she was surprised when he turned around and pointed at her. They were probably talking about how much Noel hated this project. She watched him as he walked up to her.
“Well you’re not as ashamed of me as I thought, apparently” she said and sniggered. She nodded and looked at him.
“Surprised that a Gryffindor knows how to write an essay? It’s not just Prefects who wants good grades” she said and raised an eyebrow. To be honest, she hadn’t had much of it left when she started, but he didn’t need to know that. She put her books in her schoolbag together with the parchment and stretched her arms. Being productive was tiring her.

She stood up and fixed her skirt and shirt before giving Noel a look.
“So, who was the guy you tried to talk me up for?” she joked and smiled.

"I'm actually not surprised", he started, explaining himself. "You were just really fast." He looked back at Klaus, quickly. He was already laughing with his buddy again. How could one be so social? Noel was so... stiff, uptight. He never had a problem with that before, but this project made him dislike some of his own traits.

He looked back at her as she fixed her uniform and he smiled. Also a Prefect thing, perhaps. He enjoyed students looking neat and clean.
"Oh, that was just Klaus", he said, shooting another glance at the blonde, short boy. "We've been best friends since basically our first day here." Not that he expected that Audrey would care, but he just wanted to get it out there. That he actually had friends. Or, a friend.

“You don’t have to explain yourself, I’m joking” she said and sniggered. She had decided to try from a different angle; if she explained every time she made a joke, he might realize that most of the things she said, she didn’t mean.
“Klaus… I recognize him at least” she said and shrugged. She was on the brink of making a joke by asking what on earth poor Klaus had done to have to be friends with Noel, but she stopped herself. Baby steps towards becoming a nicer person.
“Nice” she said instead, and smiled. She was annoyed that she couldn’t joke and mess with him like she did with other people, but to be fair, he didn’t know her and her ways at all.

Audrey glanced at her watch.
“So, what do we do for the next hours? I reckon they let us be separated during the night” she said and cleared her throat. First of all, she didn’t want to stay in the same room as Noel, for obvious reasons. And second of all, it would be much harder to sneak out during the night with a Prefect in the same room.
