Noel ate with great appetite, something that Audrey didn't. He didn't care though, that was her problem. Not his.
"Goodnight", he said and watched her as she walked out of the room. Well, now he was all alone. How kind of her. Not that she was any good company, but still. He looked lonely. He ate his food as quickly as he could and then left. He had to sleep a bit before he went out to patrol later.

The Slytherin common room was nearly empty. He saw two first-years struggling with some Astronomy homework. He had actually chosen to read Astronomy this year too, so it was a subject that he found interesting. He helped them and even gave them a book with great information. When he got into the bedroom he found Klaus there. He was already asleep. Strange, Noel thought. He shrugged and layed down on his bed. He wasn't going to change into his pyjamas, it wasn't necessary. He set his alarm clock on 1 am. After that, he fell asleep quite fast.

His alarm went off and woke up everyone in his dorm. He forgot to pull a silence spell on it. He didn't apologize to the other boys, though. If he had to wake up at this hour it was only fair that they did, too. He went up, yawning, and grabbed his wand. Someone (probably Klaus) threw a pillow at him as he walked out.

He met the other Prefects in the common room. They were already discussing who would check where.
"Noel, could you check the school yard?" William asked. Noel couldn't say no. He didn't want to look grumpy in front of William. He just nodded and smiled weakly. William clapped his hands and sent them all out there.

"Lumos", Noel whispered, as he came out of the castle. The wand lit up. The cold night air was refreshing. The quietness was also refreshing. Why was he even out here? Would anyone be that stupid that they walk out to the school yard at night? He hoped not. He didn't want to confront anyone.
He started walking, looking around. At last, his eyes got stuck at the lake. He saw someone there. A girl, he thought, but he wasn't sure. Hell, why did it have to be someone out there? He started walking towards the person and as he got closer he saw that it was... Audrey. Really?
"What the hell are you doing here?"

The wind was really fresh, and Audrey tried to take deep breaths while moving around on the lake. She had started figure skating at age 4, and when she got her letter and left for Hogwarts, she had realized that skating wasn’t a thing in the wizarding world. She had been a bit sad about it, but she had kept training herself anyway, just to keep her skills up. Sometimes, Eric would come and watch her, but it seemed like he was asleep at the moment. Not that she was bothered by that, she really felt like being alone tonight.

She leapt up in the air, twirling, when she heard a voice. She opened her eyes, and was surprised to see Noel. The sudden distraction made her miss her landing, and she fell on the ice, hitting her left hip hard. She whimpered on the impact, she was definitely going to get a bruise. She looked at Noel, who stood at the edge of the water, or, well, ice. She stood up, grimacing at the pain which shot through her when she moved her hip, and skated towards him.
“You get one guess, the skates and ice are good clues” she said, grinning. She looked at his lit wand.
“I guess you’re not here to keep me company” she said, this time expressionlessly. She had gone to Hogwarts for 6 years, and had never, never had been caught outside during night time. Why did this have to change now? She knew he wouldn’t understand if she explained why she did this during the night, why would he? How could he possibly understand that she had to do this to deal with her nightmares and sleeping troubles? She didn’t even bother to explain, it would just expose her, and she hated to be vulnerable.

He shook his head. She might have been the dumbest person that he knew of. He didn't even care that she fell, even though he could see her pain. She was both rude and dumb, great combination.
"Now is not the time to be sarcastic", he sighed, looking down at her. Trying to look important, like a person of authority. "Get off the ice."
What would he do now? Take points from Gryffindor? Give her detention? He couldn't run and tell Snape at this hour, it had to wait till the next morning.

He firmly held his wand and looked at her. If she wasn't dumb, or rude, or a Gryffindor he wouldn't be ashamed of the fact that he found her attractive. But he did.

She sighed and took of her skates. She put on her shoes and looked over the icy lake. The full moon’s light reflected on the ice. She muttered something and waved her wand. The ice melted, and the lake was restored. She turned to Noel, who now had destroyed her night time calm. He really messed her whole life up. She wondered if he was aware of this. She pulled her hand through her hair.
“So, Mr Prefect, I guess you have to report me to someone” she said, still expressionlessly. The storm inside of her yelled at her to explain to him, but considering how much he disliked her, he would probably gloat at her. She put her hand on her hip where the impact had been hardest, and she could literally feel the bruise building up.
“Don’t you ever get tempted to break the rules, just once?” she asked with a smile. She didn’t try to get out of trouble, she was actually curious. Did he ever do something out of line?

"I'll tell professor Snape about it tomorrow", he said, looking tiredly at her. "And then it's up to him." He looked over at the lake, which had just been ice, but now was water. He liked the ice better. Ice was beautiful, somehow. How could frozen water be beautiful? How could Audrey be beautiful? He shook his head as she started talking and he looked at her. The smile on her lips annoyed him. Could she stop?
"I respect this school and its staff, so no", he said, slowly. Looking at her and tried to show, with his entire body, how annoyed he was with her. "I don't want to break the rules."

Audrey sighed. Professor Snape. He hated her, or at least wasn’t very fond of her. Not that he was very fond of any Gryffindor student. She wonder what kind of punishment she would get. She thought of something and grinned.
“You do know that any punishment I get, you’ll have to join me, right? The whole never-leave-your-partners-side thing” she said and turned around to watch the lake again. She shrugged.
“Well, I’m already caught, so why not stay here for a while” she said and turned the lake to ice again. She switched to her skates, and moved out on the ice. She turned to Noel.
“Come on, just once! You’re technically not breaking a rule, since you’re supposed to be outside tonight” she said with a smile

Noel rolled his eyes. He would never, ever, attend a detention. Never. Certainly not because of this stupid project. He didn’t say anything. Her stupidity didn’t deserve an answer, he thought. He watched her as she turned around towards the lake again.
“I swear to Merlin, Audrey-“, he said and only stopped himself when he realized that he was nearly screaming. He was angry, really angry. What didn’t she understand? Could she ever respect him? Respect the rules?
“I will not break the rules”, he said, clenching his fist. “Get off the ice, now. I don’t have the time or energy to spend the entire fucking night with you.”

Audrey twirled. She stopped and looked at him. He sounded really angry. She just wanted him to relax. She put out her arms horizontal and twirled again.
“You don’t have to stay here all night, I’ve already been caught, right? I promise you’ll have fun! If you do this, I swear I’ll do something you want tomorrow” she said and skated towards him.
“You don’t break the rules by skating on ice, I’m the rule breaker in this scenario” she added and smiled, and this time it was actually a nice smile. She hoped that he would feel what she felt on the ice, and maybe understand her a bit. He probably wouldn’t though, since he hadn’t gotten an explanation from her. She sighed when cursed. She skated to the edge and looked at him.
“Look. Do whatever you want, but I really need to do this tonight. I don’t care what you think of me, but there is a reason I’m out here. I skate because it makes me calm and takes my mind off..... other stuff” she said and looked in his eyes. Why did she expose herself like this all of a sudden? She was shocked herself, and hated the feeling of vulnerability that grew inside of her.

He didn’t get her problem. Why didn’t she just step off the ice and do what she was told? Why couldn’t she let him do his job?
“Swell, my job is to get the rule-breakers to stop being rule-breakers”, he said, still angry. He would never walk on that ice. He didn’t get the point - twirling around, jumping, falling? Stupid. Her explanation didn’t work on him. Why? Because it was her problem. Not his. She treated him like shit - he treated her like shit. That was how it was going to be throughout the entire project.
“You can skate during the day”, he said, not breaking their eye contact. “Rules are rules. They apply to everyone.”

Audrey didn’t break eye contact either.
“I can’t do it during the day, because I’m not alone then. And as you witnessed today I have trouble sleeping, and this helps. A lot” she said angrily. She hated this, she exposed herself, and the other part just didn’t care. Not that it was his problem really, just as he said. She shook her head.
“As if you would understand” she said quietly and looked up at the moon. She breathed in the air and let the white light reflect her face. Of course he wouldn’t understand, because he probably didn’t have as much problems as she had. She wondered what would happen if she opened up to him, would he support her? Probably not, he hated her after all.
