Alison shook her head. Either he assumed that she knew how because of her general knowledge (which she considered herself was pretty all-embracing), or because of her background. She didn't comment on it, however, she was to busy trying to get them fresh water to drink.
“”Know how” is a bit of an overstatement, but I’ve heard of it. Theoretically. I have some friends in the Scouts who have told me how to do it, but I have never actually done it myself, especially not after discovering my magic gene” she said and looked around the kitchen, as that would help.
“If the teachers left us a tinderbox, that would help a lot. If not, we have to find two flintstones” she said and sighed. She put her braid over her shoulder, and opened the cabinets in the kitchen, searching for something to help them.

Troye had no clue what the Scouts were. They be completely honest he understood nothing of what she talked about. It made him feel dumb, but could you really blame him? Obviously he didn’t know what those things were because he had never used them!
“Uh, yeah, right”, he said quietly and started to search through the cabinets. He had no idea what a tinderbox looked like, but he figured that it was a box that said ‘tinderbox’. Besides, Alison would probably find it before him, so it wouldn’t be a big deal anyway.

Alison nodded and opened a cabinet in the far left corner, and a little box fell out. Inside were fire steel, flintstones and some pieces of cloths. She turned to Troye.
“I think this is it” she said and held out the box to him. She couldn’t help but agree with him; why did they have to do muggle things? Not even muggles created fire with this. She looked at Troye.
“Very old-schooled, it’s like we’re back in the Stone Age” she said and shook her head. She wasn’t sure if it was going to work, and wondered if there were another, easier way, that the other team had figured out?

How in the hell would that create fire? He wanted to sigh, the most complaining sigh; but he held it in. He didn’t want to complain about this as well. It probably wasn’t good for him either. He needed to have a more positive outlook on everything.
“Do you know how we should use it?” he asked and took the box from her, his gaze lingering over everything in it. “Because I have no clue. Obviously.” He closed the box again and looked up at Alison. For some strange reason, his eyes were drawn to her eyes and later her hair, just like it had been before.

Alison shrugged.
“I think you’re supposed to hit the steel with the stone, and that’ll create sparks. The sparks will land on the cloth and flames will be created. But we have to build some sort of fireplace where the fire can be kept” she said and looked out the tent.
“Seems like the professors reward us when we’re doing stuff right” she said and pointed towards the fire pit which hadn’t been there before. Which meant that the professors were watching their steps. Alison put the pieces of cloths in the fire pit and started hitting the steel with the stone. Some sparks were created, but not enough to start a fire. She sighed and looked at Troye.
“We might die of thirst, I’m just warning you” she said and laughed.

So. Damn. Complicated. He was already tired of it and they haven’t even started with it. Besides, he had grown hungry. Even though he had eaten enough for three people. How was that even possible? He should have been stuffed with food for like, months!
“Let me try”, he said after laughing at her joke. She was quite funny sometimes. (Most of the time. Don’t make him admit it, though.) He took the steel and the stone from her, probably without any force, and tries to mimic what she had done. Just like when she had tried it, some sparks were created, but that was in no way enough to start a fire.
“Do you think the professors are watching us?” he asked, a bit annoyed. “Because in that case, I just want to say: fuck you all!”

Alison watched him trying to work it out, but with no luck. She sighed and nodded.
“Yeah, I think they’re watching us, and I bet they don't like being cursed at” she said after he had told them to fuck themselves, something Alison would never dare to tell a teacher. She sighed.
“We’ve collaborated a lot here, they should reward us for that” she said and stared into the fire pit, as if that would create the fire they needed so much. Unfortunately, that didn’t work either. She took the steel and stone from Troye and tried again. A tiny, tiny flame appeared, and she blew gently on it to make it bigger.
“Come on, come on” she muttered and hoped this would finally work, she didn’t want to sit in the dark.

”I really don’t care what they like”, he answered, which was completely true. He had already cursed at Snape in front of his face (which led to a letter home and being sent to Dumbledore, though) and he would do it again.
The tiny flame appeared and his eyes grew bigger when he saw it. Wow! It did impress him, seeing it grow as Alison blew on it. With magic it would just appear big immediately, but this was so much cooler. After a while, the tiny flame became a big (not that big) fire.
“Great, high five!” he asked said with a huge smile all over his face, and his hand raised at Alison.

Alison blew on the flame, and finally, it could grow on its own. She heard Troyes voice, and in the corner of her eye she saw something quickly raise towards her. She flinched and recoiled, before realising it was Troyes hand, waiting for a high five.
“Yeah, finally!” she said, clapping her hand towards his, hoping it had been too dark for him to notice her reaction. She took the cauldron and put it over the fire.
“Now comes the harder part, none of us can remember how to make the potion” she said and sighed. She tried to remember the order of the ingredients, but she was completely blank. Unfortunately, when it came to Potions, you had to do everything in the correct order for it to work. Annoying.

He noticed her flinching - but decided to ignore it. What would he even say about it? ‘You flinched.’ Yeah, she’s probably aware. He lowered his hand after the high five and pulled out the berries and the resin that he had collected earlier.
“I’m pretty sure that the resin should go in last”, he said confidently. “But that’s all I know for sure.” He looked at the berries and started to figure out if they should crush them before putting them in the potion; berries were almost always crushed in potions, but he couldn’t be sure.
